outside magazine reboot

The project involves revamping a spread for Outside magazine focusing on the rising threat of toxic algae blooms in lakes and their detrimental effects on dogs. Highlighting recent scientific research proposing a solution involving repurposing spent grain from brewing beer, the article aims to educate readers on this innovative approach. The design incorporates a hand illustration dominating the two-page spread, seamlessly integrating with the headline, subheader, and body copy. Hand-drawn imagery enhances reader engagement, while the typography and layout echo the fluid forms of algae, avoiding harsh lines and corners. Notably, the illustration cleverly incorporates typography elements, with organic shapes from the headline subtly woven into the beer pouring into the algae-infested lake. This holistic design approach ensures a visually striking and cohesive spread that effectively communicates the urgency and potential solutions to combat toxic algae blooms.
